FAQs

Deciding to start counseling is a significant step, and it is natural to have questions about the process, the approach, and what to expect. At Carroll and Carroll, we believe that clarity is the first step toward building a trusting therapeutic relationship. Below, we have addressed some of the most frequent inquiries regarding Siobhan’s practice, her specialties, and the logistics of our sessions. If your question isn’t answered here, please feel free to reach out directly—we are here to help you feel at ease.

The initial session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another. Siobhan will ask about your history, what brings you to counseling now, and what you hope to achieve. It’s a low-pressure space to see if her approach feels like the right fit for you.

Standard individual sessions last for 50 minutes, often referred to as the “therapeutic hour.” This allows enough time to dive deep into topics while leaving space for a grounded wrap-up.

Not at all. Siobhan works with individuals at all stages of their journey. Whether you are questioning your relationship with a substance or just starting to notice the emotional shifts of perimenopause, counseling is about support and prevention as much as it is about intervention.

The duration of therapy is entirely unique to the individual. Some clients find clarity in 6 to 12 sessions focused on a specific behavioral change (CBT), while others prefer longer-term support for existential questions or complex family dynamics.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a practical, goal-oriented approach. It helps you identify “loops” of negative thinking and gives you concrete tools to change your behavioral responses. It is particularly effective for anxiety and habit-breaking.

Yes. Confidentiality is the cornerstone of the therapeutic relationship. There are very few legal exceptions (such as the risk of serious harm to yourself or others), all of which will be clearly explained during your first appointment.

Absolutely. This falls under Existential and Spiritual Issues. Siobhan helps many clients who feel a general sense of “stuckness” or a lack of purpose, helping them navigate life’s bigger questions to find a more meaningful path.

We offer both in-person sessions at our practice and secure online video consultations. This flexibility ensures you can receive support in the environment where you feel most comfortable and safe.
